The Showroom

Maastricht ceramics and glass sale

17 till 19 December 2021

What we now know as Bureau Europa was once the Directors’ Villa of the Sphinx: a beautiful building with a rich history. For three days in December, we bring The Showroom of the Sphinx factories back to life with a ceramics and glassware sale, and Petrus Regout’s famous lithographic print album is exhibited in its entirety for the first time.

Want to know more about that other activity in the winter diptych? Take a look here for more information about The Album.

The building of Bureau Europa opened in 1911 as the foremost showroom of Sphinx, Maastricht's most famous industry, along Boschstraat. The old showroom at Bureau Europa was once full of glass, crystal and porcelain ready for retail, and a statue of Petrus Regout, the factories’ founder, overlooked the chamber. As a celebration of ceramics, we shall revive this space to its former glory in a three-day interpretation of the former Sphinx showroom. As in the past, ceramics and glassware from Maastricht are on sale.
