The Great Indoors Award 2009

In November 2009, Maastricht hosted the second edition of The Great Indoors, a biennial international design event in the field of interior design. Besides a workshop and lecture program, an international professional jury granted five awards to excellent designs in five categories.

'Changing Ideals', the title of this edition of The Great Indoors, referred to the exhibition with the same name at NAiM/ Bureau Europa, which presented by means of eight architectural models the influence of social and societal factors on the interior. 

The international expert jury consisted of Jo Coenen, architect (NL), Dirk van den Heuvel, theoretic (NL), Anne Højgaard Jørgensen, head of design Kvadrat (DK), Anniina Koivu, design editor Abitare magazine (IT), Joep van Lieshout, artist (NL) en Giulio Ridolfo, color and textile expert (IT). 

The Great Indoors is an initiative of FRAME magazine, NAiM/Bureau Europa and Marres, Center for Contemporary Culture.

The Great Indoors is made possible by the Province of Limburg and the City of Maastricht.

Introduction on the theme of The Great Indoors 2009: 'Changing Ideals'. Also the start of The Great Indoors Workshops.

'Blurred Visions: Architectures of Surveillance from Mies to SANAA'

Speaker: Beatriz Colomina, architecture historian and Professor at Princeton University School of Architecture (USA) and author of a. o. the book ‘Domesticity at War’.

The Great Indoors Masterclasses

Nominees OMA, Guise, March Studio and NOSIGNER gave master classes on interior design and architecture.
