Tactility of time

From the shadows unfolds an architecture that moves along with time. In this graduation project, Lennart Korporaal explores how material, use, and transience together form a living space. The design for a temporary structure for habitation, built from scaffolding constructions within a ruin, evokes the idea of a refuge: a place of temporary stay and shelter, embedded within an existing context.

Inspired by entropy and wabi-sabi, an environment emerges in which change is allowed to be visible. Materials age and reveal their use; traces and wear acquire meaning. Both the architecture and the ceramics carry a quiet strength, expressed through the modesty of simplicity.

From the shadows refers to what does not immediately stand out, yet remains present. The project invites the viewer to observe and experience how architecture comes into being and transforms over time.
