Playing Fields

This first student exhibition of summer 2020 presents Joost Corvers’ graduation project. Corvers, a student of the Interior Architecture master’s at Zuyd Hogeschool, examines two very different Maastricht locations. The Il Fiore field, between the Céramique and Heugemerveld neighborhoods, and the Borgharen nature reserve, part of the Maas valley just outside the city.

Maastricht cityscapes

The Il Fiore field is an introverted terrain. Though fallow for years it has been screaming out for geographical and sociological attention. Borgharen, however, offers a special river landscape with a dynamic and extrovert character. It constantly changes due to the rise and fall of the Maas.

At both locations, Corvers designed structures to strengthen the playing fields in different ways. The interventions aim to incorporate people as players in them and restore the locations’ balance.
