Crowdfunding project “Adopt a bee honey!”

1 October 2013 till 1 April 2014

In October, Bureau Europa and Bee Collective have launched crowdfunding project ‘Adopt a bee, honey!’ The funds raised for this project will be used to install the Sky Hive Solar, two bee hives on a high pole, in the Frontenpark. The Sky Hive Solar allows the initiators to bring the bee back into the city centre of Maastricht.

Crowdfunding project “Adopt a bee honey!” wants to bring the bee back to Maastricht. After the great success of the Sky Hive prototype in the Sphinxpark, Bee Collective and Bureau Europa wish to place a new model, the Sky Hive Solar, in the new Frontenpark in March 2014. We would like to continue to promote bees and beekeepers by making them visible in urban spaces. Any idea how important bees are? Bees pollinate 1/3 of our fruit and vegetables. One bee hive produces 40 kilos of honey per year. Bees bring nature back to the city.

SKY HIVE SOLAR

The Sky Hive makes it possible to keep bees in public spaces without risking by-passers to be stung and keeping the bees safe from vandalism.

A prototype of the Sky Hive stood in the Sphinxpark, just across the main road, from May 2011 until September 2013. The bees were moved temporarily to another space outside of Maastricht. The plan is to introduce them back here in spring 2014 to attend them publicly on the new Sky Hive Solar. With the Sky Hive Solar one can lower the bees by pressing a button in order to attend them. Solar panels mounted on the roof of the bee hives will generate the necessary power for the electric motor to do so. The hoisting system is certified for use in public space.

You can start adopting from 1 euro, which is equal to one bee. By adopting you are helping to fund the Sky Hive Solar. If you adopt between 1 and 14 bees, we can only say THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING! Starting from 15 bees (euros) we have various thank you gifts. For further information go to www.adoptabeehoney.com
