Architects, home bakers, and other Maastrichtians take note! During Easter of 2025 Bureau Europa is organising The Great Maastricht Bake-off!, where everyone is invited to bake their (dream) house and city!
In London and New York, it was already a great success: architects baking their most beautiful designs in cake and cookies. While this traditionally takes place at Christmas there, we’re doing things a little differently in Maastricht—at Easter 2025! Moreover, Heel Maastricht Bakt! is certainly not just for architects. Everyone can join in!
Ultimately, Bureau Europa’s grand showroom will be transformed into one big Maastricht—but in cookie form. Architects and architectural firms are challenged to bake their most stunning design, whether realized or not. Enthusiastic home bakers are invited to create their own house, dream house, or one of Maastricht’s many iconic buildings. After all, a baked Maastricht wouldn’t be complete without aw brök or the Slevrouwekerk. Institutions, businesses, associations, and schools are also welcome to participate! They can recreate their own building or take a more creative approach and do something entirely different. Almost anything is possible, as long as it represents a building and is entirely edible.
There will be a fun prize for the best bakes in each category, awarded by our expert jury, which includes architects and bakers. But most importantly, this event brings everyone together to think about architecture and our city while enjoying the fun of baking.
So how can you participate? Sign up via the online registration form (click here). There, you can choose which category you’d like to enter. After completing the form, you’ll receive a confirmation. The registration fee is €5, which includes a basic baking kit with ingredients and some essential tools to get you started. You’ll also receive a booklet with information, rules, recipes, and more. Starting March 26, you can pick up your kit at several locations throughout the city—participants will be informed about the exact locations soon. Then, it’s up to you to bring your cake house to life!
From Thursday, April 17, to Easter Monday, April 21, all baked creations—whether from home bakers or architects—will be displayed at Bureau Europa. Everyone, participant or not, can come admire the spectacle. The event will kick off with a festive opening, the announcement of the winners, and much more—the full program will be announced soon!
