We collect dreams for Randwyck

Open Call for ideas

26 October till 1 December 2023

Changes are in the pipeline in the Maastricht neighborhood of Randwyck. We ask creative thinkers and makers to imagine their ideas and dreams for this project: what do they want to make for the renovated neighborhood? Randwyck houses a number of buildings and complexes that have national and international significance: the Gouvernement aan de Maas (Province House), Mecc Congress Center, international companies, but especially the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus, one of the world's leading locations for medical and biomedical research . But Randwyck is not yet a whole. You can also say it another way: there is still room to dream in Randwyck. The municipality of Maastricht is joining forces with various partners to further develop Randwyck in the coming years, with the Health Campus as a spearhead.

To better connect the campus, Randwyck and the southern part of Maastricht with the city center, the Green Carpet will be extended to Randwyck. The connection via Joseph Bechlaan and Johan Willem Beyenlaan is being improved, we are looking at how the station can be upgraded and there will be more greenery around the academic hospital. Bureau Europa, platform for architecture and design, supports the major improvement process and organizes a dialogue in which the sketches serve as inspiration for wishes, dreams and ideas for Randwyck.

Anyone who has an idea for a work of art, essay or design can make a short sketch and send it. Those selected will have the opportunity to develop the plan into a poster, object or image. The key players in the process: residents, the municipality of Maastricht, MUMC+ (the academic hospital), Maastricht University, students and the many companies from Randwyck are represented in the jury that assesses the sketches.

There are three themes:

  •     The community, focused on connections and creating support
  •     Health, linked to the companies of De Health Campus
  •     The public space, linked to the redesign and project development

The 10 selected sketches will be presented in Bureau Europa. The sketches form the basis for a follow-up process that can culminate in the execution of the work and/or an artist-in-residency.
