Transitions

Film art festival in the Sphinxkwartier

3 till 20 October 2024

Transitions celebrates process-driven filmmaking with a dynamic three-day gathering of artists and filmmakers. The event showcases their unique methods through screenings, artist profiles, roundtables, and behind-the-scenes insights. And includes a vibrant, free exhibition of audiovisual works at various locations in Maastricht, organized in collaboration with Viewmaster Projects.

At Bureau Europa, the nearly five-hour groundbreaking film The Movie Orgy by American director and film artist Joe Dante will be shown. The film starts every day at 12:15h and ends around 16:50h. Entry is free.

About The Movie Orgy: THE MOVIE ORGY is a legendary five-hour triumph from Joe Dante—one of genre cinema’s most significant masterminds. In 1968, the future director of GREMLINS and INNERSPACE took an apartment’s worth of 16mm prints and, with the help of producer Jon Davison (ROBOCOP), meticulously fashioned them into what is quite possibly the world’s first found footage megamix. Comprised of commercials, news reels, clips from feature films, TV bloopers, and much more, THE MOVIE ORGY is both a fascinating cultural artifact and a wild vortex of mashed-up magnificence. Unavailable to screen for decades and never available on home video, the film has been preserved from the original 16mm reels by AGFA in partnership with Joe Dante and Jon Davison.

About Joe Dante: Joseph James Dante Jr. (born November 28, 1946) is an American filmmaker, producer, editor and actor. His films—notably Gremlins (1984) alongside its sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)—often mix the 1950s-style B movie genre with 1960s radicalism and cartoon comedy.
