The Maker is Present

Three days of artist presentations

24 till 26 June 2022

On 24, 25, and 26 June the makers and artists that contributed to the Prepper Paradise exhibition will come and present their works during The Maker is Present at Bureau Europa.

A divers programme of interviews, guided tours, and city walks offers you the unique opportunity to meet the makers of the exhibition by guest curator Ward Janssen, to learn about their outlook on the Apocalyps and whatever will follow after.

In Prepper Paradise, Bureau Europa investigates the imagining of uncertain futures, whether they be caused by geo-political chaos, war, or the climate crisis. The works by designers, artists, scientists, and architects present the prepper culture's luxury, ethic, and DIY characters in a design fiction debate where visual utopias meet with dystopian times.

You can come and visit the exhibition at Bureau Europa till the 14th of August.

Compare prepping in the olden days in Maastricht with the global situation today with our city walks and guided tour. The Swedish video artist Rustan Söderling shows a supermarket in a post-apocalyptic landscape in Tannhäuser Gate, an interesting case study for future anthropologists. Kostis Stafylakis and Theo Triantafyllidis, two Greek academics/artists, present their LARP Readiness: Civil War, where society crumbles under the threats of an undefined global catastrophe. Humanity proves to be its own downfall. Filmmaker Sam nemeth will fill your evening with his (post-)apocalyptic film programme.

Let Leïà Bonjean take you along the Meuse river and learn more about the special, sometimes intense relationship between the people of Maastricht and their river. After the brunch at Bureau Europa, Dutch artists Meeus van Dis shows us his Hydra: the twofold relationship the prepper has with water - saving grace as well as biggest threat - is illustrated beautifully.
