Love Foundation & Marius Jopen

13 December 2016

On Tuesday 13 December, the Love Foundation and graphic designer Marius Jopen are participating in a discussion at Bureau Europa about the effectiveness of water development projects.

The Love Foundation is an open network of students, activists, and artists who raise money for sanitation and clean drinking water in Kenya’s Busia region.

What is the scope of this type of project, initiated by just a few volunteers? What needs can they address? What do the projects look like on the ground? How do they involve local communities in the process? And, how does the Love Foundation (and their partners Viva Con Agua & Simavi) take a critical stance towards the effectiveness of development projects and so-called ‘voluntourism’?

During the event, Marius Jopen makes live drawings informed by the discussion, to demonstrate the role of branding and design within The Love Foundation. Jopen works in Amsterdam as a graphic designer and art director.

Moderator: Saskia van Stein, director Bureau Europa.

Date: Tuesday 13 December, 20:00 – 22:00
Language: English
Admission: Free
Location: Bureau Europa
