Duo lecture Jurgen Bey & Roel Slabbers

14 July 2016

Roel Slabbers (1983, Ospel) explains his graduation project, Inter Esse, for which he won the 2015 BNI PRIZE. Jurgen Bey, co-founder of Studio Makking & Bey and director of the Sandberg Institute, chaired the BNI jury and explains why they chose Slabbers' design.

The design of Roel Slabbers is a study of transitions in architecture: transitions such as inside-out, top-down, and public-private. The study recommends more varied and functional types of households for the small family homes on the Mergelweg, an urban street bordering the landscape. Through various spatial interventions in transition areas – stairwell, corridor, entrance – an open and friendly house is created from the small workers housing.

Jurgen Bey, co-founder of Studio Makking & Bey and director of the Sandberg Institute, chaired the BNI jury and explains why they chose Slabbers' design. He also shares his perspective on the challenge of transforming interiors.
