Dancing Brain

Bo Oudendijk in the hoekkamer

28 September till 10 November 2024

Do you want to know how your brain works while you dance? Often people learn movements from dance teachers or videos, and move according to what they have leaned. However, this is not only the case. We invent new dance moves through analyzing movements of others, even on the spot. We learn from each other. You move, so I move. Are we dancing?

Delving into the field of neuroscience, Bo Oudendijk uses scientific research as a tool to develop a dialogue about movement and improvisation. Dance improvisation is a form of art without verbal communication. Bo sees improvisation as a method to redefine communication over dance and develop a discussion on how mind functions while dancing. Analyzing and redefining dance improvisation helps him to understand and grow as a performer.

This Dancing Brain project is about researching the importance of consciousness during dance improvisation. This project aims to present a conceptual art performance piece, dealing with the relation of mind and body during dance improvisation.

This exhibition is about dance improvisation constructed by finding his own definition of dance improvisation. This includes analyzing dance improvisation through own scientific research and interviews. The research further continues by identifying dance improvisation and analyzing mindset of dancers through Feedback Loop among Body, Time, and Space.
