Club Romance

29 March 2017

'Club Romance' is part of the programme of 'Tasso & Jeanne d’Arc', a theatrical performance by the Nationale Toneel. This performance is presented on 29 March at the Parkstad Limburg Theater in Heerlen.

'Club Romance' connects the romantic and the romantic ideals of local town planning and the future of Heerlen and Parkstad. Parkstad has an ageing population yet it is also successfully reinventing itself. Many initiators are concerned with maintaining the identity of the city and linking ideals of design and projects to tangible and immaterial cultural heritage. For example, the projects Streetwise against empty buildings, IBA, M2015, the Murals in Heerlen, and the mijnwaterproject.

Saskia van Stein, Bureau Europa’s director, starts proceedings with a short lecture on developments in Parkstad in recent years.Led by Saskia van Stein and referring to actual examples, Theu Boermans (director of ‘Tasso & Jeanne d’Arc’), philosopher Maarten Doorman, and Leonie Kuepers of Streetwise, will discuss, with the public, the importance of romantic radical thinking for forcing change. A musical interlude accompanies the talks.
