Expert meeting 'Resilient Resistance'

2 June 2012
On 2 June, in the exhibition 'ZOO, or the letter Z, just after Zionism', NAiM/Bureau Europa organized an expert meeting that reflected on the role of an architect/artist in contemporary society.

Seated in the heart of the installation 'ZOO, or the letter Z, just after Zionism' by Malkit Shoshan, founder of FAST (Foundation for Achieving Seamless Territory), participants discussed and investigated the potential of (cultural) strategies.

How can one undertake his professional knowledge, tools and technologies to respond to and act upon a complex (political) situation? How can these endeavors be a trigger that can stimulate a discourse that goes beyond the representational, or borrow the representational to generate a different discussion within and outside the discipline of architecture? Resilient Resistance aims to understand activism in architecture as the ability to transform and translate in order to address.

Participants were among others Malkit Shoshan, Arjen Oosterman and Lilet Breddels (Archis/Volume), curator and critic Nat Muller, artists Wouter Osterholt and Elke Uitentuis, Rory Hyde (architect), Christel Vesters (writer and curator), Debra Solomon (artist and designer), and Maurizio Bortolotti (writer and curator).

The expert meeting was moderated by Lucas Verweij (initiator Rotterdam Design Platform)
