Rien ne va Plus

12 September 2009 – 10 January 2010
'Rien ne va Plus' (Architecture in times of crisis) and'Reading Europe' (A collection of ideas on architecture and design) Result of a cooperation with magazine A10 for research into the possible assignment of architecture.

"[The challenge for architecture] is a rediscovery, or reinvention, of a bond between ethics and aesthetics (...). If architectural aesthetics is reduced to style, then living is reduced to appearances". Lebbeus Wood, 2008, citaat uit de reader 'Rien ne va Plus'.

NAiM / Bureau Europa and A10 magazine entered into a collaboration to examine architecture in Europe and the potential roles that architecture can play. The first results of this collaboration were presented from September 2009 through January 2010.

‘Rien ne va Plus’, developed by the Danish-Dutch architectural firm Powerhouse Company, examined the legitimacy of architecture against the backdrop of the current economic crisis. In this exhibition, Powerhouse Company looked at the construction industry and the economic, social and cultural mechanisms behind it. A reader was published to accompany the exhibition.

'Reading Europe’ is a long-running project, focused on the archiving and interpretation of the variety of developments within architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture in Europe.

It is not an archive of European architecture, but of the world behind it: networks, ideas, events, organisations, institutions and happenings that influence and are influenced by European architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture.

You can follow the activities of ‘Reading Europe’ on the website, www.reading-europe.eu (website design Hans Larsson and Joris Hoogenboomen), and the first results will be presented at the same time as ‘Rien ne va Plus’ at NAiM / Bureau Europa.
